Eastern Illinois University Newman Catholic Center

Faith Information

Large Group - FIRE

Every Wednesday from 7:30 - 8:30pm, students gather for F.I.R.E. (Praise and Worship). We celebrate our faith with contemporary Christian music, skits, student testimonials, and presentations from Newman campus minsters.

Bible Studies

Each week, students meet to study the Scriptures and grow in friendship. Discussion is built around the readings for the upcoming Sunday. We offer them at the following times: Monday at 8pm; Tuesday at 10am and 9pm; Thursday at 7:15pm, and Friday at 2pm. Each group meets at the Newman Center. Retreats

The Newman Community offers retreats throughout the academic year. We're offering the following two retreats this semester:

  • Retreat-on-the-go! (aka Busy Person's Retreat) from Feb. 5-9
     (30 minutes of dialogue with a spiritual mentor + 30 minutes of prayer = spiritual growth!)
  • Lent Mini-Retreat "Making your way through the Stations of Peace & Justice," Friday, Feb. 24, from 7-10pm

RCIA/Interested in the Catholic Church

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process by which the Church prepares adults to be fully initiated in the Catholic faith. This includes those who are converting to Catholicism as well as for those who have not received all three sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Anyone wishing to know more about Catholicism is most welcome. Sessions are held in the Newman Catholic Center lounge at 7:00pm on Thursdays. For more information, contact Roy Lanham at rlanham@eiunewman.org.

Catholic Collegiate Confirmation

Collegiate Confirmation is for students studying at EIU or Lakeland Community College. The Newman Community invites any baptized EIU/Lakeland Catholic student who has NOT received the Sacrament of Confirmation and would like to be confirmed to please speak to us about the possibility of being confirmed this academic year.

Candidates would be students who:
* Regularly attend Sunday Mass.
* Would meet with one of the staff for an initial consultation session.
* Would be willing to attend eight catechetical sessions at the Newman Center.
* Would be willing to attend a retreat.

Please contact Roy Lanham at 217-348-0188 or rlanham@eiunewman.org for further information and to set up an appointment.
